GamProtect is a data-sharing initiative developed to help protect individuals at risk of gambling-related harm. It creates a system for participating operators (iGaming companies) to compliantly and securely share information with other participating operators of those customers who most need support and protection. This way, identified customers will be prevented from engaging in gambling activities across multiple platforms. 
Participating operators will identify a player as at risk of gambling-related harm if the player states that they:

• Have a gambling problem or addiction.
• Are seeking external support or treatment for gambling problems.
• Will harm themselves or someone else.
• Should not be gambling because they have a medical condition (relating to the inability to make sound judgments).
• Want to stop gambling forever due to problems with their gambling.

GamProtect operates in the UK, where it works alongside major gambling companies and regulatory bodies like the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).

How does it work? 

If a customer states any of the above to us via live chat, email or while speaking to us on the phone, we must add them to the GamProtect register. Participating operators will use GamProtect to identify whether the same customer has an account with them and proceed to close their account. 
The customer will remain on GamProtect for an initial 5 years, during which they cannot remove themselves from GamProtect. However, if the player thinks they have been added to GamProtect incorrectly, they can follow the GamProtect redress process.

After the initial 5-year period, the players can remove themselves from GamProtect by contacting the Operator that prevented them from accessing gambling services (using the contact details provided in their privacy notice). The player will remain on GamProtect for a further 35-year period if they do not remove themselves from GamProtect.
Players’ details will be further held in GamProtect for an archive period of 7 years after they are removed from GamProtect (either by request or expiry)

How does GamProtect differ from Gamstop?

We, as an operator, are responsible for applying the GamProtect restriction, whereas the customer is responsible for applying a GamStop restriction.
